Acupuncture for Anxiety

Anxiety can take a toll on a person–anytime of year really, but for many, the holiday season and end of the year brings about a new host of stressors: a change in financial situation, increased time in social situations, illness, fear of becoming ill, hosting, family stress…the list goes on.

The holidays are a wonderful time to gather with friends and family, and an excellent opportunity to enjoy quiet moments of reflection. However, chronic anxiety as well as anxiety-inducing situations and seasonal depression can have one feeling powerless, frustrated, and stuck.

Don’t give up hope–acupuncture from Everybody Healing Center may be just what you need to break free from the grip of anxiety.

As people look for natural, holistic, and effective ways to treat anxiety and depression, they have begun to turn towards acupuncture. Acupuncture helps regulate the sympathetic nervous system, which is the part of your body responsible for the “fight or flight” response. By inducing relaxation in the sympathetic nervous system and waking up the parasympathetic nervous system (the one that handles relaxation and rest), acupuncture can take the edge off the telltale physical symptoms of anxiety, such as pounding heartbeat, shallow breathing, and tense muscles.

It is incredible, powerful, relaxing, and effective, but acupuncture isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach…everyone’s anxiety comes with its own unique set of symptoms, causes, and triggers. Because of that, all modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine–including acupuncture–at Everybody Healing Center are tailored to each individual patient’s particular set of needs. Acupuncture can also be a helpful treatment for other conditions that often come along with anxiety, like stress, insomnia, digestive issues, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, headaches, panic attacks, etc.

Studies have proven that acupuncture can be a solid treatment for anxiety.

One meta-analysis from 2022 looked at twenty-seven different randomized controlled trials and found that acupuncture was more effective at easing anxiety symptoms compared to pharmaceuticals or talk therapy. Another study published in the Annals of General Psychiatry found that acupuncture was just as good as non acupuncture therapy at reducing symptoms in patients with generalized anxiety disorder.

Acupuncture is all-encompassing and requires a skilled practitioner who understands the intricacies of Traditional Chinese Medicine and can work with a patient to develop a personalized treatment plan.

Personalized treatment plans at Everybody Healing Center may include diet and lifestyle modifications, herbal or supplement recommendations, a personalized way to incorporate acupuncture into what has worked for you in the past or present, and advice on how to deal with stress and anxiety on your own, outside of the clinic.

If you are struggling with anxiety, consider reaching out to Everybody Healing Center today and giving acupuncture a try. It may be just what you need to find peace, joy, and tranquility in a world that can be overwhelming.
